Our horses are equal partners at ZenFoal. Each one brings their own wisdom, personality, and presence to the work.

They are never “used” for therapy they choose to engage. Their presence alone often brings calm, insight, or connection.

Zenfoal Horse Bios:

Xia

zenfoal xia

Xia was born in 2008 on the west coast of Ireland. She’s had an interesting life full of quiet travels and deep connections. At just two years old, she journeyed to the east coast, and a few years later, she crossed the sea with me to Wales.

Since returning to Ireland, she’s settled into her role as the elder of our herd and along the way, she had a beautiful foal.

Xia isn’t always the first to approach, but she’s always watching. She notices what others miss. She offers support in the spaces between. And when something isn’t right, she’s the one who gently but firmly restores the balance.

She is the guardian of the herd.
The still point in the turning world.
And I trust her with everything.

Mo Chori

Mo Choir

(“My Heart” in Irish)

Born into the herd, born into this work – this is Mo Chori.

She’s Xia’s daughter, and her name means “my heart” a name she’s lived up to every day. I’ve known her since the moment she arrived in the world. She was a bit of an ugly duckling at first gangly legs and wild hair but over time, she blossomed into the most graceful swan.

Now 10 years old, Mo Chori is gentle, intuitive, and sweet to the core. She reads the room with quiet ease and makes people feel safe just by being nearby her. This work seems to live in her bones she didn’t have to be taught it. She just knows.

But don’t let her softness fool you she also loves to let loose. Whether it’s racing around the field or leaping over logs, she brings a joyful energy to the herd that lifts everyone up.

Some horses grow into this work.
Mo Chori was born for it.

Power

zenfoal Power

At just 8 years old, Power brings a quiet, grounded energy to the herd that feels far older than his years.

He began life on the racetrack, a world of speed, pressure, and precision. But these days, he moves at his own pace calm, deliberate, and always aware.

There’s a strength in him that doesn’t need to prove itself. He doesn’t ask for attention, yet he holds it with ease. He’s steady. Present. The kind of horse who sees everything but reacts to very little.

Power brings a deep stillness to those who meet him. He’s not loud or flashy, but he carries a natural authority that others horse and human seem to trust instinctively.

He reminds us that real leadership isn’t about being the loudest.
It’s about presence. Patience. Trust.

His chapter at ZenFoal is still being written, and we’re lucky to have him walking it with us.

Dakota

zenfoal dakota

(The Surprise, The Showman, The Joy-Bringer)

Born in 2020 at the very start of the pandemic, Dakota made his entrance into the world with style. His human mum found out he was on the way just a week and a day before he arrived.

He’s Mo Chroí’s first foal, and you can definitely see it in his spirit, full of life, full of curiosity, and just a little bit cheeky.

Dakota probably has the biggest personality in the herd. He loves to be the centre of attention, has a knack for making people laugh when they need it most, and will happily flop into your lap if he’s feeling extra affectionate (yes, that’s happened). When he’s relaxed, he gently licks hands a small but endearing ritual that’s uniquely his.

At times, he’s like a spoiled child who knows exactly how adored he is, but under all that is a deeply intuitive, joyful soul who brings lightness to even the heaviest days.

Some horses hold space.
Dakota fills it with laughter, mischief, and unexpected love.

Cariad

zenfoal Cariad

(Her name means “beloved” in Welsh – and it suits her perfectly.)

Cariad is the youngest of the herd, Mo Chroí’s second foal, and the gentlest presence in the field.

She was born with a black coat, but with each passing season, it lightens soft greys slowly weaving their way through. Watching her change is like watching the seasons turn. Gentle. Natural. Unstoppable.

Cariad is endlessly curious and seeks connection with her whole heart. Sometimes that shows up as quiet closeness. Other times, it’s a nudge, a look, a lean into your space a request to be seen, held, understood.

She may be the youngest, but she brings something timeless with her:
A softness that doesn’t fade.
A willingness to trust.
A heart that meets the world without armour.
